Longmeadow was incorporated as the first community in the newly formed Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1783. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, Longmeadow was best known as the site from which Longmeadow brownstone was mined. Today the town is known for its beautiful scenery and suburban feel. The population was 15,864 according to the 2017 census.
